USPS International Return Address

Here's the United States Postal
Service manual for sending international
mail:

Outbound US International Mail

Today I confirmed something I've read
before. United States mail destined for
a foreign country should have the words
United States in the return address.
United States appears as the last
line of the return address.

In other words, you write the senders
address (your address) in the upper
left-hand corner of the envelope.
The only thing that you add, when sending
mail outside of the United States,
is one more line. The extra line, the
bottom line, consists of two words:
United States

United States Postal Addresses

Here's where you go to do
a zip code lookup on a
United States postal address:

US zip code lookup

Why use this? It is handy
for discovering whether or
not you have been given a
valid address.

If the address is not valid,
it is best to confirm the
address with the person
you are sending your letter
or package to before sending
it.

Otherwise, it might not get
there.

If you are mailing from the
United States, you can look
up the postage due here:

Of course, if the package
or letter originates from
outside the United States,
postage due is set by your
local postal system.

Irish Postal Addresses

Irish postal addresses are a
test of faith for me. I have
to have the faith that the
Irish person knows their own
address.

That seems to be the best solution.
Trust the Irish! Trust them
to know their own postal system.

Here's a web page that describes
Irish postal addresses:

Postal Addresses in Ireland

World Postal Service

This is a new blog.

This blog is for people
who send letters and packages
internationally. This is
something I do myself.

Here's a worldwide postal address
lookup service that I find quite
helpful:

World wide address lookup

As an alternative to using this
service, you can also look up an
address via the host country website.

For example, here's the Royal Mail:

Royal Mail

You might find the Royal Mail website
useful if you are trying to send a
package or letter to a United Kingdom
Address.

Here's a guy who obsesses about addresses
and how to address a letter:

Guide to Postal Addresses

OK. This is probably enough to get you started.
